Nirvana; however, for an instantaneous idol as reluctant as
Kurt Cobain, it marked the beginning of the end as, almost immediately, the song, its accompanying
video, and the
album from which it came were the focus of an entire
generation. Below: an unsent letter, written by Cobain in 1993 and addressed to
