Number One Snoopy Place

A couple of days ago, as the axe was barely settling in the head of Charlotte Braun, I was alerted to another letter by Peanuts creator Charles Schulz. He wrote this one back in 1986, in response to an inquisitive letter from a 15 year old boy named Randee. Randee had questioned Schulz regarding what he thought could be perceived as racism in this strip, and Schulz clearly disagreed with the insinuation.

Dear Randee:

I can't believe that you are so ready to leap in with your criticism.

Fifteen years ago, when the strip was drawn, I believe there was only one black in the National Hockey League. Does pointing out this fact make the strip racist?
